A flying car capable of speeds over 100 mph (160 km/h) and altitudes over 8,000 feet (2,500 m) received a certificate of airworthiness from the Slovak transport authority.
The hybrid car, AirCar, is equipped with a BMW engine and runs on normal fuel from the gas pump. It takes two minutes and 15 seconds to go from the car to the plane. The certification follows 70 hours of flight testing and more than 200 takeoffs and landings, the company said.
“AirCar certification opens the door to the mass production of highly efficient flying vehicles,” said its creator, Professor Stefan Klein.
“It’s the official and definitive confirmation of our ability to change mid-range travel forever”.
